WHAT IS ETIQUETTE & HOW CAN IT HELP ME?

What is it and what is it good for?
et·i·quette / ˈedəkət,ˈedəˌket/

noun the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group.

synonyms: protocol, manners, accepted behavior, rules of conduct, decorum, good form; courtesy, propriety, formalities, nice

Besides teaching which fork to use for the salad course and what dress to choose for cocktail receptions, etiquette covers much broader issues. Basic etiquette rules can help at casual picnics, on the phone, at company holiday parties, online, and at wedding receptions. Politeness works everywhere, all the time. At home, your good manners help everyone in your family develop self-esteem. In the office, good manners stimulate others to work well with you.
As Thomas Sowell said, “Politeness and consideration for others is like investing pennies and getting dollars back.”

Business Etiquette

We all know that not every sales pitch will result in a deal. There are lots of reasons a deal might not work out: costs, timing, logistics. These are all tangible and measurable. But what about those times when you have made such a cultural mistake that you've completely insulted your client and subsequently lost the deal?

Our first impressions are lasting and often sub-conscience.

Even if you went back and asked why your offer was rejected, your client may not even connect your misstep with his rejection. Even if he or she doesn't remember the specifics, chances are very good the bad taste left behind will be remembered. Forever.

On the other hand, good will and a real effort to make your counterpart feel comfortable and understand his or her culture is respected and can go a long way to secure a long, happy, and profitable relationship. This is why proper Business Etiquette is so important. It shows effort, respect, and gains you good will for times to come.

Etiquette is all about building better relationships with your family, friends, co-workers, and other people in your life.

Let me just say, "OMG"! This could be a real life saver. It'll for sure help me "save face". When I think back on all the times I've accidentally put my foot in my mouth just because I didn't know the local rules I could just die of embarrassment. Never again (at least I hope not). Thank you, AppPropo!

I run the front desk at a boutique hotel that hosts a lot of guests from overseas and I am so happy I found this app! It's going to make it so much easier for my staff to make all our guests feel welcome now that all the information we need to greet them appropriately will be at our fingertips.

I grew up in four foreign countries in the developing world as a foreign service brat, and traveled to dozens more as a US Army officer. Life would have been easier if AppPropo had existed back then, even for the simpler things in the developed world. For example, I was once with my family in Austria at a cafe, on a Rest & Recuperation (R&R) trip halfway through a hardship assignment. We ended up paying a small fortune for 4 tiny warm Cokes, when we could have been drinking cold, delicious wine for a third of the price, and not been laughed by those around us for being idiots. AppPropo may not fix everything, but it'll help so much!
